Salento

Salento, now one of Colombia’s major tourist attractions is known for its colonial architecture, verdant tropical vegetation, proximity to Los Nevados National Park and coffee.

The village itself is small, with a population of about 7,000, and has retained its traditional colonial architecture as a result of the major route to Bogota being diverted during upgrades in the mid-1800s which left the small community in the ‘back blocks’ so to speak.

The result is the beautiful town, colourfully adorned, just perfect for wandering around and people come in droves to do so!

Nearby Los Nevados National park includes the Valle de Corcora, where you can see forests of Wax Palms, the tallest palms in the world which grow at altitude of between 2,000m and 3,100m.
